Let’s make “yakisoba (stir-fried noodles)” with a rice cooker! / 炊飯器で『焼きそば』を作りましょう! 


What’s yakisoba? / 焼きそばって?


Yakisoba” are Japanese-style stir-fried noodles with meat, seafood, and vegetables and they are seasoned with a sweet-savory sauce similar to Worcestershire sauce.

Generally, they are cooked using a frying pan.



How to cook yakisoba / 焼きそばの作り方

Before cooking

Some rice cookers prohibit the use of some ingredients, so please check the instruction manual for your rice cooker before cooking.



Ingredients (for 2 people) / 材料(2人分)

  • Yakisoba noodles : 2 bags
  • Bone-less short ribs: about 130g
  • Cabbage: 2-3 leaves
  • Bean sprouts: 1/2 bag
  • Onion: 1/4
  • Carrot: 20g
  • Water: 3 tablespoons
  • Worcestershire sauce: 3 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce: 2 teaspoons

*Ingredients such as meat and vegetables are your choice. It’s also delicious with seafood such as shrimp and tuna.

  • 焼きそば麺:2玉
  • バラ肉:130gくらい
  • キャベツ:2~3枚
  • もやし:1/2袋
  • タマネギ:1/4個
  • ニンジン:20g
  • 水:大さじ3
  • ウースターソース:大さじ3
  • しょうゆ:小さじ2


How to cook / 作り方

  1. Wash the bean sprouts well and drain. Cut carrots, onions, and cabbage into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Arrange the bone-less short ribs in the pot of the rice cooker so that they do not overlap as much as possible.
  3. Place cabbage, carrots, onions and bean sprouts over the ribs.
  4. Finally, add the yakisoba noodles and water.
    It might be good to loosen the noodles a little.
  5. Mix the Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce to make the sauce. (When you don’t have commercially supplied yakisoba sauce.)
  6. Press the rice cooker switch to start cooking.
    If there is a quick cooking menu, even it is OK.
  7. When it’s done cooking, turn off the switch, add the sauce made in step 5 and mix to complete.
  1. もやしはよく洗い水気を切ります。ニンジン、タマネギ、キャベツは、食べやすい大きさに切ります。
  2. 炊飯器のお釜の中に、バラ肉をできるだけ重ならないように並べます。
  3. キャベツ、ニンジン、タマネギ、もやしをバラ肉の上に入れます。
  4. 最後に、焼きそば麺と水を入れます。
  5. ウスターソースとしょうゆを混ぜてソースを作っておきます。(市販の焼きそばソースがない時に。)
  6. 炊飯器のスイッチを押して炊飯します。
  7. 炊き上がったらスイッチを止めて、手順5で作ったソースを掛けて混ぜ合わせたら完成♪
